  • description

  • Thanks to its major reserves of natural resources and strategic location, the economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan has grown rapidly in recent years. This new-found wealth, coupled with the determination and vision of the Kazakhstani government, has resulted in the massive architectural transformation of the Republic's two largest cities: Astana and Almaty. This installment of the Cities Reinvented Series explores the way Astana and Almaty have been architecturally reinvented, featuring in-depth studies of major modern works of architecture, such as Norman Foster's Twin Towers, the Kazakhstan Central Concert Hall and the Transport Tower, and also providing a comprehensive history of modern architecture in Kazakhstan, from major city planning projects and master plans to cutting edge domestic-scale designs, as well as profiles of the local and international architects who made this transformation possible.
