  • description

  • The capital of Catalonia is synonymous with a single architect; Gaudi. But the work of the modern master is just one aspect of Barcelona's rich cultural heritage. Beginning with planning for the Olympic Games in 1992, in recent years large parts of Barcelona have been rebuilt and redesigned to make it one of the most architecturally dynamic cities in Europe. This installment of the Cities Reinvented Series explores the way Barcelona has been transformed, featuring in-depth studies of major modern works of architecture, such as Mies Van der Rohe's Barcelona Pavilion, the Hespería Tower and the Torre Espiral by Zaha Hadid, and also providing a comprehensive history of modern architecture in Barcelona, from major city planning projects and master plans to cutting edge domestic-scale designs, as well as providing profiles of the local and international architects who made this transformation possible.
