  • description

  • The capital of Saudi Arabia, has seen prodigious change in the modern period. Ever since income from the sale of oil began to change the country's economy in the middle of the 20th Century, the city has experienced constant architectural change, but in recent years this change has become even more accelerated. Efforts to make the capital a destination city for both business and pleasure purposes have resulted in spectacular investment in architectural projects. This installment of the Cities Reinvented Series explores the way Riyadh is being transformed, featuring in-depth studies of major modern works of architecture, such as the Kingdom and AlFaisaliah Towers and the Safwa Complex, and also providing a comprehensive history of modern architecture in Riyadh, from major city planning projects and master plans to cutting edge domestic-scale designs, as well as profiles of the local and international architects who made this transformation possible.
