  • description

  • The third largest city in Spain, Valencia has a long and rich European history. The city thus boasts spectacular churches and cathedrals dating back to Roman and Arabic times, fine examples of Baroque and Romanesque styles and world-renowned markets and plazas. But it would be wrong to ignore the recent major projects which carry on the city's proud architectural tradition. This installment of the Cities Reinvented Series explores the way Valencia has been transformed, featuring in-depth studies of major modern works of architecture, such as the City of Arts and Sciences and the Valencia Opera House, both by Santiago Calatrava, and the Veles e Vents America's Cup Pavilion, and also providing a comprehensive history of modern architecture in Valencia, from major city planning projects and master plans to cutting edge domestic-scale designs, as well as profiles of the local and international architects who made this transformation possible.
